Counseling services are available at Norris
The Norris Health Center Counseling and Consultation Service provides short-term counseling for UWM
students. If it is assessed that your need for treatment requires long-term counseling or
resources/competencies beyond what we can provide, we will assist with a referral to an appropriate
off-campus mental health provider.
Psychiatric consultations are available on a limited basis for students either requesting or in need of that service.
Your visits are private and no one outside Norris Health Center is given any information about you
without your written permission. Our staff consist of licensed counselors, psycologists, psychiatrists,
and graduate student trainees.
Our services are available to all currently enrolled students who have paid the student segregated
fee. You must have paid fees each semester that you are in counseling. Students not enrolled for summer
classes but who were enrolled the previous spring or are enrolled for the subsequent fall term may pay
a special fee for use of the Norris Health Center services during the summer.
What services are not available?
The Norris Health Center Counseling and Consultation service does not provide service that requires court
testimony, or that requires reports/letters to be filed with any District Attorney's Office,
defense attorney's office, any state department of probation and parole, or any state department of
vocational rehabilitation. Additionally, we do not provide comprehensive psychological test batteries
to determine the presence of learning or vocational disabilities.
