Human Movement Sciences

The Master of Science degree in Kinesiology is a research-oriented program, multidisciplinary in nature, encompassing five human movement science disciplines: Biomechanics, Exercise Physiology, Motor Control, Psychology of Physical Activity, and Sociology of Physical Activity. Each of the five subdisciplines is supported by a research laboratory and at least one graduate faculty member holding a Ph.D. and conducting ongoing research. Fifteen graduate faculty supervise thesis research, advise graduate students, and deliver the graduate curriculum. Among our faculty are past and present Fulbright scholars, presidents and fellows of international and national academic organizations, award-winning teachers, and NIH funded researchers, all of them committed to providing the highest quality educational experience.

Program Overview

This M.S. program is designed to accommodate the needs of professionals who wish to utilize the degree as a means to advance within their careers, increase skills in research, and gain a greater understanding of practice. Some of our current students and graduates work full-time as educators and health professionals and complete their degrees on a part-time basis.

At present, the program annually supportsTen half-time teaching assistants. In addition, a limited number of research assistantships and/or project assistantships become available on a year-to-year basis as faculty procure research grants and contracts.
