Human Movement Sciences - Kinesiology
Admission & Graduation Requirements
The undergraduate program offered by the Department of Human Movement Sciences is a four-year curriculum leading to a Bachelor of Science degree (B.S. Kineseology). It is advisable for students in this program to declare their submajor (Athletic Training, Exercise and Fitness, Health and Fitness Management, Kinesiology) as early as possible. The program for all submajors consists of pre-professional study (freshman and sophomore curriculum) and professional study (junior and senior curriculum) leading to the completion of 128 or 131 credits as required by the submajor. The curriculum areas include core courses, general education, emphasis courses, and free electives.
The Kinesiology submajor requires 128 credits.
Admission to Professional Program: Human Movement Sciences
The following requirements must be met before beginning the professional course (junior and senior level courses) of study:
- The student must obtain a grade of "C" or better in:
MATH 105 Intermediate Algebra
BIO SCI 202 Anatomy & Physiology I
BIO SCI 203 Anatomy & Physiology II
PSYCH 101 Introduction to Psychology
SOC 101 Introduction to Sociology
- The student must have completed 58 credits (post high school),
- The student must have an overall UWM GPA of 2.5,
- The student must have obtained English and mathematics proficiency in accordance with the University's General Education Requirements
You may be required to undergo a background check.
Admission Requirements to Professional Program
The following requirements must be met before beginning the professional course (junior and senior level courses) of study:
1. The student must obtain a grade of "C" or better in: MATH 105 Intermediate Algebra, BIO SCI 202 Anatomy & Physiology I , BIO SCI 203 Anatomy & Physiology II, PSYCH 101 Introduction to Psychology, SOC 101 Introduction to Sociology,
2. The student must have completed 58 credits (post high school),
3. The student must have an overall UWM GPA of 2.5,
4. The student must have obtained English and mathematics proficiency in accordance with the University's General Education Requirements, and
5. The student must have successfully completed the appropriate group of pre-professional core course requirements and associated pre-requisite courses.
Admission Requirements to CHS Professional Program for students without a CHS background
Students who transfer to UWM are subject to the program requirements at the time of admission. While the Office of the Registrar will review academic transcripts and perform pre-approved department course-for-course transfers, the Department of Human Movement Sciences reserves the right to modify transfer requests. Course transfers may be disallowed if grades achieved are below acceptable levels or if courses were taken beyond a reasonable time period. Students may also appeal for course substitution consideration if content of a course taken is significantly similar to a program requirement. Such appeals are subject to review by the Undergraduate Program Director and the primary faculty in the specific area. Course descriptions and syllabi may be necessary for documentation.
Graduation Requirements
To graduate, students must:
1. complete 128 or 131 credits as required for their declared submajor,
2. earn a minimum UWM cumulative grade point average of 2.5,
3. earn a minimum 2.75 cumulative grade point average in all HMS courses in the Junior and Senior levels, including Kinesiology Internship and Seminar (HMS 489) when required within the submajor
Certification Requirements for Professional Practice
