Proper management of solid and hazardous waste represent an ongoing challenge to business and government. SHWEC assists both communities and businesses by providing integrated solid waste management planning assistance and targeted technical assistance. This includes helping communities develop competitive contracts and agreements with vendors, monitoring legislative trends and developments in Wisconsin, and providing up-to-date disposal market information. SHWEC also helps businesses understand the regulatory requirements for these materials and ways to better manage them in a competitive environment. Solid and hazardous waste research focuses on innovative strategies for waste management, as well as trends in collection and disposal of target materials.
Environmental Resources Center
The Center is made up of a variety of UW-Extension Staff working on various environmental and natural resources programs such as lakes and water quality, agriculture pollution prevention, community hazardous waste collection programs and many other environmentally related programs around the state.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Cooperative Environmental Assistance Bureau
The Cooperative Environmental Assistance is located at this site and is a portal to the entire WI-DNR web site. CEA is a partner with SHWEC on a variety of pollution prevention programs. The CEA web site contains many pollution prevention publications, regulatory guidance links, cooperative agreements and projects and direct links to CEA Business Sector Specialists.
The Wisconsin Small Business Clean Air Assistance Program
SBCAAP provides extensive assistance related to air permits, air regulations and other environmental assistance. is another long time state partner in providing pollution prevention programs and has developed many easy to understand publications that clarify air regulatory requirements.

The EPA's Region 5 Solid Waste web site home contains recycling information, solid waste programs, grants and initiatives in region 5 related to non-hazardous solid waste management.
