Ph.D. Program's Application for Admission Requirements      (checklist)
Application to the Ph.D. Program is open to anyone with a baccalaureate or advanced degree in Architecture, another environmental design profession, social sciences, or related field.  In particular, the Program encourages applications from individuals with a commitment to the pursuit of advanced architectural research centered on environment-behavior relationships. Typically, four to five students are accepted for admission to the Program each year.

The Ph.D. Program Committee carefully reviews all application materials.  In addition to traditional indicators such as grade point average and GRE or TOEFL scores, the Committee places particular emphasis on the Statement of Reasons for Graduate Study and the extent to which it communicates a clear understanding of the nature of architectural research and indicates how the resources of the Ph.D. Program at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee are particularly suited to the applicant's intended plan of study.

The Ph.D. program requires that the following materials be sent directly to the School of Architecture and Urban Planning.

These requirements are in addition to the Graduate School application requirements:

completed to date, likely area of concentration, and research interests.  Send two copies to
the Graduate School and one copy directly to our School.

- Three (3) Letters of recommendation (visit link for forms)
From persons in a position to assess your potential for advanced graduate research and, if
appropriate, for the various forms of financial aid for which you may be applying.

Examples of research, teaching, and/or professional work relevant to advanced graduate
research (portfolio of visual work and/or examples of written work, completed research, etc.).
