  Legislative Relations  
Almost all administrators encounter elected officials. This workshop will analyze the role of administrators in the legislative process and provide training for effective participation by administrators in that process. While often misperceived as an activity limited to elected officials, the law-making process is actually one that public managers should be involved in by giving ideas, suggestions and comments at appropriate stages.

  • Identify appropriate roles for managers in relationships with elected, legislative bodies at the state and local levels.
  • Develop a plan for working with various legislative bodies, including purposes, processes, and assigned responsibilities.
  • Testify at a legislative hearing
  • Understand how to actively participate in the legislative process without forsaking your professional obligations
  • Identify legislative deliberations and key stages in the shaping of public policy.
