| Green building is the fastest growing area of the building industry and has proven to be effective in reducing energy, conserving resources and improving occupant comfort. To create and manage a successful high-performance building project, an interactive approach to the design process is required. This course examines integrative design from its conceptual stages to actual case studies, including a step-by-step process for implementing this approach using concrete examples. We explore how to define project intentions and integrate them by first defining the basic elements of integrative design, and shifting our approach to embrace systems thinking. A step-by-step outline is presented on how to implement the integrative design process from the proposal and pre-design phases through construction delivery and operations phases, and concludes with a case study example.
