Pa Vang is a program manager in the UWM School of Continuing Education with extensive experience in the domestic violence movement, the Wisconsin Hmong community and participatory action scholarship. Over the past year, a grant from the Hmong Mutual Assistance Associations has helped her to develop a culturally competent evaluation and assessment tool, working at three pilot sites in La Crosse, Milwaukee and Wausau, Wisconsin.
In May, 2001, she addressed the National Association of Social Workers' 27th Annual State Conference, as part of a Multicultural Panel on the Hmong Community. She also presented "Addressing Domestic Violence in Wisconsin" at the Sixth Annual Hmong National Conference in Sacramento, CA in April, 2001. Pa has experience as a victim advocate/case manager for the Judicial Oversight Initiative in Milwaukee County where she worked with survivors of domestic violence, encouraging them to engage in the criminal process, providing support and assistance in accessing community services and managing cases throughout the criminal process.
In 1999, Pa worked with the Institute for Wisconsin's Future on the report: Domestic Violence Victims in Transition from Welfare to Work: Barriers to Self-Sufficiency and the W-2 Response. She collaborated in the design of the survey instrument, partnered with the domestic violence service providers in Wisconsin and worked on various components of the data collection.
Pa has served on the Board of Directors for the Wisconsin Coalition Against Domestic Violence since 1997 and has served as chair since June of 2001. In 1999, Pa was recognized by the Governor's Council (Wisconsin) on Domestic Abuse for Significant Achievement in Domestic Abuse Issues.
