FRI, February, 22nd 10:30am-12:00pm Lubar S250 The topics will be 1) A Look Inside the Therapeutic Recreation Certificate and Thoughts on Making the Transition from Face to Face to the Blended Instructional Format--Patty Thomas, Occupational Therapy and 2) Course Diagnostic: Econ 104. The LTC staff will provide input on Richard Meadows' online course to identify possible strategies to enhance the course.

FRI, November 16, 2007 1:30-3:00pm Lubar S250 The topic will be quality in the online course, and we will be expanding the invitee list to include department chairs and associate deans. This will be an opportunity to learn about best practices in online instruction at a crucial time of expansion in online and blended course offerings and enrollments at UWM. Please take a moment to read the attached online assessment diagram, which will be the basis for a discussion led by the Learning Technology Center and faculty members who have extensive experience in online instruction.

Richard Meadows, Bob Kaleta and Laura Pedrick to lead a general discussion on possible futures for online and blended/hybrid instruction at UWM, focusing on the following topics: (1) Collaborations with other institutions. What kinds of conversations are occurring across campus in schools, colleges and departments around collaborating with other institutions in offering online/blended degrees? (2) Online/blended instruction as part of the university-wide Academic Planning process that is currently under way as a precursor to development of a campus master plan. Innovative instructional technologies (and increases in the adoption of existing technologies) have profound implications for UWM's future. How do you see online and blended learning evolving at UWM? (3) What innovative tools/technologies/best practices do you see on the horizon?

(1) A special presentation on the 2006 ECAR Study of Students and Information Technology, with UWM-specific (as well as national) data. Please join Judy Caruso, a Fellow at the EDUCAUSE Center for Applied Research, Co-PI on the ECAR Study of Students and IT, and Director of Policy and Planning at DoIT at UW­Madison; and David Stack, Deputy CIO, I&MT for their analysis of current trends in students' use of technology. (2) Community brainstorming session on 'Tips to Help Students Succeed' as online learners. This will help develop a new section of UWM's distance education website. (3) There will be an update on the Blending Life & Learning initiative.

Please come to the meeting with your brochures, URLs, and prepared to discuss how you get the word out about your online program. Please pass along word to staff in your schools and colleges who work in marketing and outreach--they would add a lot to the discussion!
