Mission Statement for SOE Advising

To provide administrative, organizational, and programmatic support to students that facilitate their development as quality urban educators, community professionals, and advocates for change.


Values Statement for SOE Advising

We value a student-centered, holistic and ethical approach based on a strong partnership with students, faculty and staff, and the larger campus community. We are committed to creating a respectful and supportive environment for our diverse student, staff and faculty population. We encourage our students to be self-reliant through informed decisions and choices based upon dissemination of accurate information. We value the continuous professional development of our staff to enhance the quality of the advising experience.


Vision Statement for SOE Advising

To become an integral component of the School of Education recognized for quality student service by:

SOE Advising Goals
  1. Advisors will make contact with their first year advisees each semester.
  2. Advisors will provide accurate program information.
  3. Advisors will provide current and accurate information on available internal and external resources.
  4. Advisors will provide a professional environment that is respectful and supportive of all students.
  5. Advisors will respond to students in a timely manner; ideally within 48 hours.
  6. Advisors will engage in on-going professional development.

Student Outcome Goals for SOE Advising

1. First year students will report at least one contact with their advisors each semester.

Benchmark: Seventy percent (70%) of first year students have documentation in their student file showing contact.
2. Students will understand their program requirements.
Benchmark: Seventy percent (70%) of students will respond strongly agree or agree to Question #11 on the advisor feedback form.
3. Students will be knowledgeable of available internal and external resources.
Benchmark: Seventy percent (70%) of students will respond strongly agree or agree to Question #5 on the advisor feedback form.
4. Students will report that their advisor made them feel comfortable, welcome, and concerned with their needs.
Benchmark: Seventy percent (70%) of students will respond strongly agree or agree to Question #5 and #8 on the advisor feedback form.
5. Students will report overall satisfaction with advising.
Benchmark: Seventy percent (70%) of students will respond strongly agree or agree to Question #3 - 11 on the advisor feedback form.
