NCA Accreditation Self-Study Timeline

Summer 2003
Organize for Self-Study

  • Identify and collect preliminary source documents
  • Steering Committee meets in June & August
  • Rita Cheng to meet individually with team chairs to discuss charge & strategy
  • Build Web site
  • Develop schedule for interaction with governance groups


Fall 2003/Winter 2004
Gather Data & Identify Patterns of Evidence

  • Orientation to self-study for all team members (August 25th)
  • Meet with governance groups to discuss key accreditation/campus planning issues (ongoing)
  • Collect supporting materials for site visit resource room (ongoing)
  • Teams develop work plans
  • Steering Committee reviews team work plans
  • Steering Committee chair meets with team chairs monthly
  • Steering Committee meets twice monthly
  • Teams meet monthly (some teams are meeting every other week); break into subteams as needed, with subteams meeting on a more frequent basis


Spring/Summer 2004
Prepare Self-Study

  • First draft of team self-study reports due (mid June)
  • Team reports combined, revised to create single self-study draft (mid July)
  • NCA Steering Committee meets with Chancellor Santiago (Tuesday, August 3, 2004 9am-10:30am, Chapman Hall 306)
  • Draft revised based on input from Steering Committee
  • NCA Teams meet to review revised draft (August)


Fall 2004
Coordinate NCA Site Visit

  • Draft posted on Web for campus review – comments solicited
  • Draft to Chancellor, Vice Chancellors, Deans, governance groups for review
  • Draft revision based on campus input
  • Determine layout, finalize key source documents for site visitor resource room in Chapman Hall
  • Begin developing special Web pages for site visitors only
  • Printed copy (final draft) of self study to UW System, Chancellor, Vice Chancellors, Deans, Governance Groups, and other appropriate university constituencies
  • Informational session at Academic Deans Council, Faculty Senate, Academic Staff Committee, University Committee


Spring 2005
Finalize Site Visit

  • Send self-study report and Commission-required institutional materials to site team and Commission liaison (February)
  • Preliminary contact with site team chair on specifics of visit
  • Make hotel and travel arrangements for site visit team
  • Develop informational packet for site visitors (work with University Communications and Media Relations)
  • Develop schedules for site visit including meeting rooms, meals and refreshments
  • Send final schedules out to Steering Committee, teams, Vice Chancellors, and Chancellor
  • Prepare for site visit (meet with key governance, administrative groups, do run-through)
  • Make final arrangements for site visit (resource room ready)
  • Site visit on April 25-27, 2005
