Welcome to the Office of Assessment and Institutional
Research. This office supports and advances the strategic goals
of the university by providing official comprehensive, timely and
user-friendly information for institutional planning, policy formation,
decision-making and evaluation projects and processes. In addition
to ensuring the accuracy of university data, OAIR coordinates responses
for internal and external accountability mandates and requests for
information about the campus. OAIR also develops survey instruments
and coordinates the implementation of university-wide surveys.
OAIR provides services in three major areas:
- External Reporting. OAIR
has primary responsibility for preparing and submitting official
reports and data files to ensure the University's compliance with
UW-System, state, and federal reporting mandates. OAIR coordinates
responses to requests for information received from the media,
publishers of college guides, local government, the general public,
and other institutions.
- Internal Planning Support. OAIR
is charged with compiling, analyzing, and interpreting statistical
data used for planning by university administrators and committees.
This information is disseminated to the UWM community through
annual reports published via our website, as well as through responses
to ad hoc requests Examples of this data includes:
- student characteristics
- admissions
- enrollment
- retention and graduation rates
- courses taught
- credit hour production
- degrees awarded
- teaching workloads
- employee characteristics
- revenue and expenditures
- research productivity
- Campus Data Support. OAIR
is deeply involved in campus data and warehouse issues. Activities
in this area includes:
- Coordinating with data custodial offices to ensure data
integrity and end-user functionality.
- Working with functional office staff to populate the campus
data dictionary
- Develop/revise data views in the campus data warehouse
to meet changing campus needs and ensure ease of use
- Develop/revise query functions and reports for campus use
- Develop new methods of reporting that allow non-technical
users easy access to needed data
