UWM Assessment Council Meeting Minutes Minutes Members present: Guest: Kim Pietsch, Dawn Koerten, Nance Gusavac, Connie Schroeder Dev Venugopalan urged Assessment Council members to visit the U.S. Department of Education Secretary Margaret Spellings’ web site (http://www.ed.gov/news/pressreleases/2007/03/03222007.html) periodically to get a sense of the movement toward federally-mandated learning outcome assessment. He also mentioned that the NASULGC, AASCU and other organizations such as CHEA are also actively discussing and responding to these issues. The most recent CHEA Resolution in response to the DOE’s actions can be found at: http://www.chea.org/pdf/CHEA_Board_of_Directors_Resolution.pdf.Tony Ciccone distributed a copy of the recent General Education Survey Results (attached as web site handout) and a lengthy discussion of GER ensued. A group of six UWM faculty and staff will be attending the American Association of Colleges and Universities General Education Assessment Workshop in mid-May. A copy of the proposal submitted to was distributed (attached as web site handout). A brief WEAVE update was given by Linda Anderson-Courtney. She distributed a listing of materials submitted to WEAVEonline and reported that these materials would be uploaded within thirty days. The system will then be ready for faculty/staff use. The handout is attached as a web site handout. The Assessment Council reaffirmed its desire for individual school/college/department assessment coordinators. Dev announced that a letter asking Deans to appoint coordinators would be sent out by Provost Rita Cheng in the near future. An assessment workshop will be held the week of May 29th for the Assessment Council and the newly appointed assessment coordinators. Tony Ciccone and Connie Schroeder will facilitate this meeting and will cover the first step in assessment “program goals”. |
