Administrative Reorganization: Division
of Academic Affairs Colleagues,
I am writing to announce that, effective in January, 2007, the Department of Enrollment Services, the Department of Financial Aid, the Department of Recruitment and Outreach, and TRIO and PreCollege Programs will leave the Division of Student Affairs and officially become part of the Division of Academic Affairs. I say "officially" because these four units and Interim Vice Chancellor Jim Hill have been working closely with me and members of my staff over the past two years in planning and carrying out our enrollment management strategies and our Access to Success initiatives. This organizational shift follows a campus conversation Chancellor Santiago initiated more than a year ago regarding possible realignments to achieve our strategic campus goals. The even closer alignment with our schools and colleges that will be enabled by this move will support our collective work in effective enrollment management and student retention. At the same time, the new Vice Chancellor and staff will have the opportunity to focus on the important task of enhancing student life through the remaining programs and departments of the Division of Student Affairs. While the reorganization will not take place immediately, the chancellor and I want to ensure clarity in roles and expectations as we begin the interview phase in the search for our next Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. And we look forward to continuing a full-fledged partnership between Student and Academic Affairs to enhance student life and academic success. Sincerely,
Rita Hartung Cheng
