Bruce Maas Appointed as UWM's Chief Information Officer and Director of Information & Media Technologies

Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Bruce Maas as UWM’s Chief Information Officer. Campus input was of great value to me in making this decision, and I thank the members of the university community who provided their input during the search process. I also thank the Search and Screen Committee, ably led by Rob Yeo, for bringing a strong slate of candidates to campus.

Bruce brings a strong background in financial and budget management, academic school/college experience, and project management. He has a master’s degree in Administrative Leadership with undergraduate majors in Accounting and Management Information Systems from UWM. He has served as the campus Budget Manager, Assistant Dean for Business Affairs for the School of Education, the School of Social Welfare, and the College of Health Sciences, and as a Deputy CIO. In addition, he served as the Project Manager for the PeopleSoft Student Administration implementation.

As interim CIO, Bruce has led the response to the campus wide IT Review and has prioritized resources for staff training, information security, web development, e-mail and calendaring, and network support.

As we anticipate expansion of UWM’s physical presence by adding multiple campuses, the critical role of technology in facilitating research, learning, and business processes, and in fostering a sense of academic community, becomes ever more apparent. I am confident that Bruce, and I & MT, as well as the decentralized technology units across campus, will meet this challenge successfully.

Sincerely,
Rita
