Lubar School of Business Dean Update

Dear UWM faculty and staff,

After considerable consultation with Chancellor Carlos Santiago and several other people involved in the recruiting process, we have decided to discontinue the search for a new dean of the Sheldon B. Lubar School of Business at this time. The search will re-start in the Fall 2008 semester.

The matter has been discussed with current Lubar Business School Dean Kanti Prasad, and he has agreed to stay on in his position during the coming months. I am appreciative for his continuing commitment to his faculty, staff and students.

The chancellor has encouraged us to seek the right people for key UWM positions such as this one, and if we do not have absolutely the right person in our recruiting pool, then we should not make the hire. While we were able to gather many high-quality candidates for this position, in the end we agreed that the search should instead continue.

On behalf of the university, I want to extend my appreciation to the search committee, and to the people who attended candidate forums and provided insights about the candidates following the forums. I thank you for your desire to make UWM better.

Sincerely,

Rita Cheng
Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
