Planning for a School of Freshwater Sciences at UWM
For several years, the campus has discussed a goal of establishing
UWM as the premier institution for freshwater science. As part of
these discussions, the formation of a school to house graduate and
undergraduate programs, with close links to programs and research
in other schools and colleges, has been viewed as the appropriate
next step.
The School of Freshwater Sciences Planning Team is asked to
- review prior documents and other materials relating to the School,
and
- prepare a draft proposal for further review and discussion by
the UWM faculty and administration.
Specific areas the team will consider include academic programs
and curricula; areas of research; faculty resources; relationship
of the new School to UWM's mission and the Water Institute; process/timing/criteria
for converting senior scientists to faculty status; a plan for
the school faculty governance in the early years; and potential
for support from external stakeholders and funders.
