This specialized suite of programs, faculty connections and intensive academic opportunities is designed for high-achieving UWM students, and those considering advanced undergraduate or graduate study.

First-Year Seminars

Smaller in size and broader in scope than other freshman-year courses, First-Year Seminars enhance skills (inquiry and analysis, critical and creative thinking, oral and written communication) and engage students in reflection about the process of learning at the college level. Read more.

Honors College

Meeting the needs of some of UWM's most talented and motivated students, the Honors College combines the educational experiences of a small liberal arts college with the unique opportunities available at a major urban research university.

McNair Program

The McNair Achievement Program seeks motivated undergraduate students interested in pursuing graduate work, and provides them with mentoring and rigorous academic opportunities. McNair scholars are primarily students who identify as first-generation or low-income. Many come from underrepresented backgrounds – and leave the program with additional research and academic skills and contacts.

Business Scholars Program

The Business Scholars Program is an honors-level academic program within the Lubar School of Business offering an intimate, cohort learning environment, research- and application-oriented classes, and the opportunity to work closely with Lubar School faculty. In addition program incorporates many opportunities for interaction with the Milwaukee-area business community, as well as social and educational events scheduled throughout the academic year.

Career Development Center

Choose satisfying majors, build career skills, and make successful transitions from campus to career. At the Career Development Center students can plan an education that is both rewarding and marketable, and plug into the largest job market in the state.

Center for International Education

Become a global citizen as you pursue an international major or certificate, study or work abroad, attend free on-campus lectures and conferences. Get to know students from around the world. On-campus and overseas programs, student clubs and special events are sponsored by the Center for International Education (CIE).

Office of Undergraduate Research

Research alongside some of our very best faculty as early as sophomore year through the Office of Undergraduate Research. OUR students graduate from UWM with research rewards and experience, influential mentors and connections and a promising future as scholars and researchers.
