Why should students participate in Access to Success programs? Research shows that students who participate in these activities are more likely to successfully complete their first year and return for a second year than the freshman population as a whole. Access to Success is a campus-wide initiative designed to help students achieve greater success, especially during their first year. The goals and actions of Access to Success are embraced by the entire UWM community and include a continuum of initiatives starting with recruitment and culminating in graduation.

First-Year Student Checklist for those with ... something great in mind!

: See your Academic Advisor; Your best source of information and encouragement.

: Talk with your Campus Ambassador/Mentor; A first contact when you arrive on campus and a personal advocate during your first year.

: Meet a Faculty Member; Who shares your academic interests.

: Visit the First-Year Center of UWM's Student Success Center; The one stop where you can find all the information about valuable resources on campus.

: Participate in a Learning Community; Learn, study, and grow as part of a small community within UWM's larger University setting.

: Enroll in a First Year Transition Course; Designed to challenge your intellectual curiosity and ability.

: Take Advantage of Tutoring; Individualized academic coaching for your courses.

: Sign up for Supplemental Instruction; Weekly review sessions especially designed for large lecture classes.

: Make use of the Multicultural Student Center and Support Services Offices; Located on the first floor of Bolton Hall, they are designed to facilitate student success.

: Seek out enhanced learning/research opportunities; From the Honors College to Business Scholars to the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program.
