Get active with Panther Advocates this election season

A new school year is beginning and the fall election season is right around the corner. Primary elections are Tuesday, Sept. 14, in Wisconsin, and the general election is Tuesday, Nov.2.

You and all of our UWM alumni have the opportunity to demonstrate your interest in seeing Wisconsin prioritize the University of Wisconsin System and public education funding. The Student Vote Coalition at UWM, with cooperation from our Panther Advocates organization, plans to register, educate and mobilize UWM student voters this fall. If you would like to support the work of students on campus and in the community at-large as part of the Get Out the Vote campaign, there are many ways you can get involved. The City of Milwaukee Elections Commission will come to campus to train anyone interested in being a registration deputy. The training will take place in Sandburg Flicks at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 9.  It’s free and should run about an hour; just bring your Wisconsin driver’s license or ID card.

The Panther Advocates also will assist with tabling on campus, canvassing student neighborhoods and holding events to register students and get them educated about the election. And then on Nov. 2,^, we will need volunteers to aid in moving students and staff to the polls from campus. If you have any ideas you’d like to contribute or resources to donate, we’d love to see you get involved in the vote coalition. Our alumni are an important part of the UWM community.
