Jacqueline Graham

BS Biological Sciences `99
Anesthesiologist, Department of Anesthesiology, Adena Regional Medical Center, Chillicothe, Ohio
Prior to attending UWM, Jacqueline had completed an undergraduate degree from UW-Madison in the field of Public Relations and was a highly successful PR professional for several years, but knew in her heart that medicine was her true calling.  She enrolled at UWM to complete a second Bachelor’s degree in order to be fully prepared for the challenges which were ahead of her at medical school.  She graduated Summa Cum Laude (GPA 3.89) from UWM, went to medical school at UW-Madison and then completed her residency in anesthesiology at Ohio State University hospital.  She went on to distinguish herself in the field of medicine, practicing in an under-served area near Appalachia.  To put Jacqueline’s success in context, there are approximately 708,000 practicing physicians in the United States, of that number about 4.4% are African American.  There are 38,691 practicing anesthesiologists in the U.S., approximately 1,400 are African American.  Therefore, less that 1% of all physicians in the U.S. are African American anesthesiologists.  Dr. Graham is among those elite few.
