Beginning as an Emergency Room Technician at Columbia St. Mary's, Darin advanced professionally to Director, Clinical Products Review for Advocate Health Care and then to Director, Operations-Critical Care, at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Chicago, Illinois, and now to Director of Emergency Services at Orange Park Medical. While at Advocate Health Care, Darin's commitment to nursing and health care helped save over $50 million dollars through product standardization and cost-saving initiatives. He also helped to achieve a 465 bed Level-one Trauma Center which was recognized by Magnet, the highest award a hospital can receive for impeccable nursing care and excellence in continuing education.
At Orange Park Medical Center Darin oversees the daily operation of a 36-bed emergency room with over 65,000 annual visits and more than 90 fulltime employees. He redesigned the Nursing Care Model to move to a three-to-one nurse/patient ration without increasing the number of full-time employees.
Darin is also involved in health care at the national level in the area of patient care and nurse safety. He has served as a n expert panelist with BD Medical, a national medical technology company that manufactures equipment and supplies. BD Medical invited him to be one of six panelists who met to discuss and brainstorm solutions for patient and nurse care, in response to the 2001 Federal Needlestick Safety and Prevention Act, which his intended to protect health care professionals from the dangers of needle-related injuries.
