  • SOIS alumna, Venetia Demson, is one of 10 recipients of this year's "I Love My Librarian" Award, sponsored by the Carnegie Corporation, New York Times, ALA, and @ your library. There were over 1700 nominations for this prestigious award this year. Venetia has been a long time supporter of SOIS. Prior to moving to the east coast, she was active with the SOIS Alumni and Beta Phi Mu chapters. She is currently the Chief of Adaptive Services for the DC Public Library and Regional Librarian for the DC Regional Library for the Blind & Physically Handicapped. Congratulations to Venetia! For more information, please see the award website:
  • Thanks to the more than 280 SOIS alumni, faculty and guests who attended our Alumni Reception Nov. 2! We had a great social gathering at the Pabst Mansion in Milwaukee, which was part of the annual Wisconsin Library Association conference.
  • Thanks to everyone who participated in the second-annual SOIS Silent Auction in early December. An estimated $2,100 was raised off the auction items alone. All proceeds support SOIS Diversity Scholarships If you would like to donate to SOIS for any scholarship, please visit
