AOC: AOC Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I need to take courses offered by AOC?
The courses are designed to guide you for your future course work. The classes are small, generally 20 students, so that students can receive more academic help from their instructors.
How do I know which courses I need to take?
Your AOC advisor will help you plan your course work.
How many credits can I take per semester?
The average full time course load is 12 credits. If you would like to take more credits, you'll need to discuss the matter with your AOC advisor.
Where do I find listing of university courses and descriptions?
You can find the information here: www4.uwm.edu/schedule/
Why do I need to attend the Summer Bridge program?
AOC recognizes that some students' educational experience may not have prepared them to succeed in college. The Summer Bridge Program helps students with their transition from high school to college. Read more…
How do I pass the program?
You need to have at least a minimum of a C grade on each of the four classes. Failure to attain at least a C in any one of the four classes will result in an automatic failure of Bridge.
How do I know how well I'm doing in the program?
You should receive progress reports from your instructors weekly. For math class, since you're using ALEX, you should be able to see your progress report daily.
Where do I find help with the Math class?
AOC has a tutor dedicated to help AOC Summer Bridge students in the West Wing of the Library.
Why was I put on final academic probation?
Because you did not make the satisfactory progress that you could have during the Summer Bridge Program, the AOC instructors who taught in the program met and made the recommendation for you to be placed on academic probation. While on probation, you must attain a minimum of 2.0 GPA (C grade) during the fall semester. Otherwise, you will be officially dropped. Please see the "Academic Probation" section.
Why did I fail the Bridge program?
If you have a C in one or more of the four classes, then you'll be unable to attend UW-Milwaukee for the academic term, and your Fall admission will be rescinded.
Can I take Bridge a second time?
No. The Summer Bridge Program can only be taken once. If you did not pass the program, you must attend a different college/university first before applying for UW-Milwaukee again.
Can I still attend UW-Milwaukee in the future even though I did not pass the Summer Bridge Program?
Yes, with conditions. You must attend a different college/university full-time for at least one semester during regular university hours (unless otherwise noted) and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0. The classes you take must be transferable, such as GER (General Education Requirements) classes.
