Archaeological Institute of America
The Archaeological Institute of America (AIA) is a national organization of professional archaeologists and interested laypersons devoted to furthering fieldwork and research in archaeology and bringing the results of that research before the general public.
The AIA is organized in over 100 local societies throughout the USA and Canada with a central office at Boston University in Boston. The local societies, of which the Milwaukee Society is one, present annual programs of lectures and other activities to members of the AIA in their area. Lectures are usually free and open to the public. Other activities such as trips to local museums and archaeological sites may have a nominal fee with a price break for members. Occasional members-only events are sponsored as well.
The AIA has an annual meeting for professional and avocational archaeologists from around the world to learn about the latest developments from the field. Visit the AIA web site to obtain information on the annual meeting.
