In
a beautiful neighborhood near Lake Michigan and only minutes
from downtown Milwaukee, UWM offers an ideal cultural environment
for
aspiring young musicians.
With 26 full-time and 20 adjunct professors,
the UWM Music Department offers you first-rate instruction by
highly qualified professionals
in all areas of music. We offer BFA, BA and MM degrees in a variety
of areas. At UWM you will study with an artist-teacher who maintains
an active professional career. We pride ourselves on utilizing
regular faculty members for undergraduate courses (even freshman
classes).
Our faculty takes the time to get to know you personally, and with
our low 10-to-1 student/faculty ratio, you get the individual attention
you deserve.
Our students are enthusiastic, friendly,
helpful and hardworking. They come primarily from Wisconsin, but
many are from other states
and foreign
countries. Our list of distinguished alumni includes nationally-known
leaders in all aspects of music. A healthy family spirit characterizes
UWM music students who support the accomplishments and potential
of their fellow students.
While professional training is the main
thrust of the UWM music curricula, the department offers many personal
enrichment courses
for the nonmusic
major. UWM students have the opportunity to participate in a wide
range of performing organizations such as the Concert Chorale,
Jazz Band,
Symphony Band, Symphony Orchestra, University Band, University
Choir, and Wind Ensemble.
Private or class music lessons are also
available to non-Music majors who have a successful audition; consent of
instructor and availability
of instructional time; and concurrent registration in an approved
Music Performance organization.
