John Climer, director

The Wind Ensemble is the premier concert band in the Department of Music. The ensemble stresses the single performer concept, utilizing only the players needed for a given piece, thus providing the greatest exposure to the exceptional musician. As a preeminent ensemble, the Wind Ensemble has appeared at the 1981 MENC Conference in Minneapolis, the 1981, 1984, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1993, 1994, and 1999 WMEA Conferences, the 1982 CBDNA Conference in Atlanta, GA, the 1991, 1994 CBDNA North Central Conferences at Michigan State University and University of Nebraska-Omaha, the 1997 and 1999 Wisconsin NBA Conferences, and numerous conferences throughout Wisconsin, the United States and Australia.

Membership in the Wind Ensemble is open to all graduate or undergraduate UWM students. Auditions are held at the beginning of each semester.

Wind Ensemble rehearses 5 hours per week: Monday and Wednesday from 12:00 to 2:00 and Friday from 1:00 to 2:00. Music majors receive one credit for Wind Ensemble. Non-music majors can register for two credits. All rehearsals are held in Room 280 of the Zelazo Center for the Performing Arts.
