There are more than 20 student performing
groups at UWM, including the Brass Choir, Collegium Musicum, Concert
Chorale,
Jazz Ensemble, Music From Almost Yesterday, Contemporary Music Ensemble,
Percussion Ensemble, Symphony Band, Symphony
Orchestra, University
Band, University Choir, Wind
Ensemble, UWM Opera, and numerous chamber
groups.
Contemporary Music Ensemble
The Contemporary music Ensemble performs compositions by student
members and invited guests that deal primarily with improvisation
and indeterminacy.
The ensemble performs two concerts per year. In addition to performing,
class meetings involve discussion of approaches to contemporary
composition and often invite guest composers to discuss their
work in a colloquium
format.

Music with Percussion Ensemble
The MWPE was established in 1972 by Prof. Pavel Burda. The ensemble
provides a platform for professionally-oriented students to
gain exposure to and perform the standard repertoire written
for this
idiom in our
century, and to premiere commissioned works. Over the years,
the MWPE has become part of Milwaukee's rich musical life. MWPE
has collaborated
with Milwaukee Ballet, the Ko-Thi Dance Company, and others.
It has also performed in international symposia and multi-media
events, produced
recordings, and collaborated with composers Stephen Montague
and Leonard Salzedo of London, England, Marlos Nobre of Brazil,
well-established
soloists, and UWM faculty and student composers.
