Portable MBA for Physicians

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Sheldon B. Lubar School of Business and the Medical Society of Milwaukee County are pleased to announce the UWM Portable MBA for Physicians.

In today's uncertain, turbulent healthcare environment, physicians are increasingly expected to deliver high quality health care, work in teams, communicate effectively, and understand a challenging array of financial, accounting, marketing, and management practices. Physicians' abilities to assist in making management decisions and controlling their environments rely increasingly on business acumen.  

Because these management skills are not generally taught in medical schools, physicians are turning to business schools to help fill this gap. Drawing from its long history of delivering business skills and concepts to MBA students, corporate executives, and physician audiences, the UWM Lubar School now offers a program aimed specifically at the business skills and competencies needed in the medical profession. 

Features and ContentGrounded in the same business principles taught in the UWM Executive MBA Program and with nine years' experience delivering the UWM / Medical College of Wisconsin Faculty Leadership Development Program, the six-day Portable MBA for Physicians will cover topics in the following areas:

• Leadership & People Management
• Accounting & Financial Management
• Marketing & Business Development in Health Care
• Firm Practice & Strategy

In addition to practical, relevant content that covers business development, financial management, team building, communication, marketing, sales, and people management skills for the medical field, the program also features personal management skill assessments and applied learning projects (see Program Matrix).

2010 Program DatesThe program will be delivered in three 2-day sessions in 2010 on the following Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8:00 am-5:00 pm:
