Areas of Expertise
Dr. Priem teaches courses in Strategic Management, Organization Theory, and Business and Society. He also teaches executive modules in strategy implementation. His research emphasizes strategy making processes, top manager judgments, and cross-cultural differences in managerial decision-making. Dr. Priem has consulted in strategic issues for organizations such as AMR Corporation, the SABRE Travel Information Network, and the American Excelsior Company. He worked in private industry as a marketing manager for a high-technology business unit of Control Data Corporation, and served for six years in the U.S. Navy as a nuclear power instructor.

Professional Activities

Dr. Priem has published 45 scholarly articles in academic journals such as the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Journal of Management, Strategic Management Journal, Strategic Organization and Organization Science. He serves on the editorial boards of the Academy of Management Journal, The Academy of Management Review, and the Journal of Management, and has served on the Executive Committee of the Business Policy & Strategy division of the Academy of Management. He has been a Fulbright Scholar at the University of College of Belize (Central America), a visiting professor at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the Ecole Superieure de Commerce et de Management (Groupe ESCEM) in Tours, France, Luiss Business School and Libera University degli Studi Sociali Guido Carli in Rome, Italy, and he is a regular visiting professor and departmental consultant at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Before joining UWM, Dr. Priem was professor of strategic management and chairman of the management department at the University of Texas at Arlington. He has received numerous teaching and research awards, including the Outstanding Graduate Teacher Award, the Distinguished Research Award, and appointment to the university-wide Academy of Distinguished Teachers, all from the University of Texas at Arlington. At UWM, he received the 2005 Business Advisory Council Award for Teaching Excellence, the 2005 Izzet Sahin Research Award, and a number of MBA Gold Star Teaching Awards.
