Dr. Zhao’s research interests are in the areas of data integration, data mining, and medical informatics. His current research focuses on identification of semantic correspondences across heterogeneous databases, cascade generalization of classification methods, cost-sensitive learning, fusion of data mining and domain knowledge, measuring and visualizing attribute interdependencies, semantic retrieval of electronic medical records, and semantic mapping across medical terminologies. He teaches courses in programming and database management.
Dr. Zhao has published in such journals as Communications of the ACM, Journal of Management Information Systems, IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering, IEEE Transactions of Systems, Man, and Cybernetics, Information Systems, Data and Knowledge Engineering, Decision Support Systems, Journal of Database Management, Knowledge and Information Systems, and Journal of Information Systems and e-Business Management. His work has been funded by the National Science Foundation. He serves on the editorial review board of the Journal of Database Management.
