Job DutiesAdvise Business and prospective Business students on issues related to admission, registration (course selection), and graduation (program requirements). Specific areas are very numerous and wide-ranging. This person will also provide back-up for other advising staff in the area of non-routine advising as needed. Given the extended hours of the Student Services Center, some evening and weekend hours will be required. The incumbent along with his/her colleagues will be a contact for undergraduate recruiting efforts. This includes high school visits, college fairs, etc., usually coordinated by UWM Department of Recruitment & Outreach, as well as the 2-year UW-College campuses. This staff member will be attentive to new and creative ways to recruit high caliber diverse students to the UWM Lubar School of Business.
While the primary responsibilities of the staff member in this position is student advising, ad hoc assignments and project work will arise. Examples include, but are not limited to: (1) assist in the maintenance and implementation of the School's registration priority plan; (2) participate on the Advising and Counseling Network; (3) assist in the compilation of background information for discussion of undergraduate curriculum changes; (4) assist in maintenance and updating of Student Services Center hand-outs; (4) assist in writing the Lubar School of Business student newsletter; (5) assist in the Lubar School of Business Freshman and Transfer Student Orientation Programs and New Freshman Orientation programs (each semester working in conjunction with the Department of Enrollment Services to administer orientation sessions for new freshmen and transfer students--including assisting students in registering for their first semester of classes).
Qualifications Required qualifications are a Bachelor's degree, excellent communication skills, and experience and desire to work with a diverse population.
Preferred QualificationsPreferred qualifications are a Master degree, two years of related work experience in advising students in a university or college setting, and the ability to prioritize and multitask to complete projects timely and accurately.
Salary is commensurate with experience.
This is a full-time fixed-term academic staff appointment.
