Lubar School of Business Officially Dedicated!
A crowd of more than 300 gathered on a beautiful, early summer evening to witness the official dedication of the Sheldon B. Lubar School of Business at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Distinguished Milwaukee business leader and philanthropist Sheldon B. Lubar was joined by his family, UWM faculty and staff, members of the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents, and other friends of the university for the momentous occasion.

UWM Chancellor Carlos Santiago, Lubar School Dean V. Kanti Prasad, and UW System Board of Regents President David Walsh led the celebratory program.

“The naming of the school in honor of a business leader of Sheldon Lubar’s stature means so much for the university and the business school,” said Prasad.

Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle joined the festivities, proclaiming June 8, 2006 as “Sheldon B. Lubar Day” in the State of Wisconsin in recognition of Lubar’s many outstanding contributions to the fields of business, arts, and higher education.

State Representative Curt Gielow also presented Lubar with a commendation from the Wisconsin State Legislature.

Business students G Thao, Elicia Scaife, and Zachary Orr – all recipients of Lubar Scholarships – pulled the cord to unveil the school’s new signage.

Lubar, who was joined by his wife Marianne at the podium, summarized his philosophy for the audience: “What greater good can a citizen perform than to extend a helping hand to those who follow?”

Sheldon B. Lubar is the Founder and Chairman of Lubar & Co., Inc. A well-respected Milwaukee business leader, Lubar also has a distinguished record of public service. He held appointments under three U.S. presidents, including positions as Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and Commissioner of the Federal Housing Administration.

A past president of the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents, Lubar has long been dedicated to higher education. At UWM, he is a past president and 32-year member of the business school’s advisory council, and is a distinguished director of the UWM Foundation. He was awarded an honorary doctorate in commercial science from UWM in 1988.

In February, Lubar announced at $10 million gift to UWM’s business school, the largest gift in the university’s 50 year history.
