MBA Student Advances to International Business Plan Competition Semi-Finals

Regents Approve School's Renaming to Sheldon B. Lubar School of Business
MBA student Jamin Miles competed as a semi-finalist in the University of San Francisco’s 2006 International Business Plan Competition. He traveled to San Francisco in March to present his plan before a group of judges from venture capital firms and Silicon Valley companies. Miles was honored with the competition’s Microsoft Technology Pioneer Award for the business proposal that “best demonstrated development in new information technology arenas that connect individuals and enhance their ability to succeed.”

Miles proposed a company that would provide affordable and reliable business software applications to small and medium sized organizations via the Internet. “Clients would need only a PC, an internet connection, and a web browser,” said Miles.

Currently working as an Inside Partner Account Manager with Software ONE, Miles looks forward to the opportunities and challenges of owning his own IT business one day.

“I think starting your own business is a great opportunity to make your mark on the business world,” said Miles. “There’s a level of excitement that you don’t get with a regular job – you’re really putting yourself out there to be judged as a business leader.”

A Milwaukee native, Miles is set to graduate from the MBA program in August with a concentration in information technology management.

This is Miles’ second consecutive year with success in national business student competitions. Last year, Miles and a team of three other MBA students placed ninth in the Thunderbird Social Responsibility and Ethics Challenge.
