Bradley Lecture to Focus on Regional Economic Development

What are some of the emerging global trends and best practices in regional economic collaboration? How do successful regions best leverage the strengths of their partners?

Gerry George, Professor of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at London’s Imperial College, will discuss “Leveraging Regional Alliances to Maximize Innovation and Economic Development” at the Bradley Distinguished Lecture Series on Monday, February 4, 2008, 12 noon – 1:30 p.m., at the Pfister Hotel.

The Bradley Series is sponsored by UWM’s Lubar School of Business and the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation.

To stimulate innovation and build regional economies, many regions have joined forces through formal, collaborative efforts between the private sector, higher education, and government. Standout regions in the U.S. include California’s Silicon Valley, North Carolina’s Research Triangle, and Boston’s Route 128. Beyond our borders, successful regional efforts can be found in many countries, including the UK. Dr. George will share his experience and research findings on networks for innovation in British companies with some counter examples in the US.

Gerry George is Professor of Innovation and Entrepreneurship and serves as the Director of the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at London’s Imperial College. He is also an AIM Innovation Fellow with the UK’s Economic and Social Research Council. Dr. George is an expert on managing innovation in technology-based companies and has successfully launched ventures of his own. Prior to joining Imperial College, he held tenured positions at the London Business School and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
