David O. Nicholas Applied Finance Lab Opens
The David O. Nicholas Applied Finance Lab opened this spring at the Sheldon B. Lubar School of Business. Nicholas family and friends were joined by students, faculty, and distinguished guests for a ribbon cutting ceremony and tours of the lab.
Distinguished Lubar School alumnus and business leader David O. Nicholas (’87) established a $2.5 million endowment to build and operate the David O. Nicholas Applied Finance Lab, which offers Lubar School students access to the same technology, databases, and real-time market data, analysis, and news available to professional traders in investment firms. The facility will also support a full spectrum of curriculum enhancements in both investment and corporate finance.
“This is an outstanding addition to the Lubar School and a boon to our students who are pursuing studies in investment finance,” said Lubar School Dean V. Kanti Prasad. “We are grateful to Dave Nicholas for inspiring this great learning facility. His generosity has made this dream a reality.”
David O. Nicholas is President & Chief Investment Officer of Nicholas Company, Inc., a high performance company in the mutual fund arena consistently over the last four decades. Mr. Nicholas graduated from the Lubar School’s MS-Finance program in 1987. He continues to be actively involved at UWM, as a member of the Lubar School’s Business Advisory Council and the UWM Foundation Board of Directors, and as a major fan and supporter of Panther Basketball.
“This will be a fantastic facility to educate and train future investment managers for the State of Wisconsin,” said Nicholas.
