Admission

The Bachelor of Business Administration degree is based on two years of college work in general-education requirements and business foundation work, followed by two years of study in upper-level business coursework. 

New FreshmenAdmission of freshmen into the Sheldon B. Lubar School of Business is granted to students who fulfill the UWM admission standards.

Transfer Students

Applicants with 56 or more transfer credits will be admitted directly to a major if a review of their academic record indicates that they meet the admission criteria for the major requested.

At least 50 percent of the business credit hours required for the business degree must be earned at UWM.

Students from two-year institutions (community colleges and two-year UW Colleges) are limited to the transfer of up to 72 credits required for the bachelor degree.

Admission to the Business Major

Students are eligible to be admitted to their major when the following requirements have been completed:

  • Attain junior standing

  • Satisfy the Mathematics and English Composition requirements

  • Complete the Business Foundation Course group, which consists of:
    For students admitted to UWM Fall 2012 or thereafter:
                     
    • Math 211 Survey of Calculus & Analytic Geometry                                                     
    • Econ 103 Principles of Microeconomics                                                                        
    • Econ 104 Principles of Macroeconomics
    • Comm 103 Public Speaking or Comm 105 Business and Professional Communication
    • English 205 Business Writing
    • Bus Adm 201 Introduction to Financial Accounting
    • Bus Adm 230 Introduction to Information Technology Management
    • with a cumulative GPA of 2.25 or above and  obtain a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or above in all coursework, including transfer course work.                                                               
      For students admitted to UWM prior to Fall 2012:                                                 
    • Math 211 Survey of Calculus & Analytic Geometry                                                
    • Econ 103 Principles of Microeconomics

    • with a cumulative GPA of 2.00 or above and  obtain a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or above in all coursework, including transfer course work.
    Degree Requirements

    For students admitted to UWM Fall 2012 or thereafter:

    Credits: A minimum of 123 credits is required for graduation for all majors. At least 50 percent of the business credit hours required for the business degree must be completed at UWM.

    Grade Point Average: Students are required to earn at least a 2.25 cumulative GPA to graduate, including any transfer work.

    Non-accounting majors are required to maintain a minimum 2.25 GPA in all business and economics courses, as well as a 2.25 GPA in all business and economics courses completed at UWM.

    Accounting students must have earned a 2.5 GPA for all business and economics courses completed (including transfer credits), as well as a 2.5 GPA in all business and economics courses completed at UWM to graduate with the accounting major


    For students admitted to UWM prior to Fall 2012:

    Credits: A minimum of 120 credits is required for graduation for all majors. At least 50 percent of the business credit hours required for the business degree must be completed at UWM.

    Grade Point Average: Students are required to earn at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA to graduate, including any transfer work.

    Non-accounting majors are required to maintain a minimum 2.25 GPA in all business and economics courses, as well as a 2.25 GPA in all business and economics courses completed at UWM.

    Accounting students must have earned a 2.5 GPA for all business and economics courses completed (including transfer credits), as well as a 2.5 GPA in all business and economics courses completed at UWM to graduate with the accounting major.

    Residence Requirements

    A minumum of 12 credits must be completed in residence at UWM in each Bus Adm major. Students must earn their last 30 credits at UWM. BBA degree and major requirements must be completed within 10 years of initial enrollment at UWM. Should students not complete the degree and major within the 10 year timeframe, the students will switch to the most current degree and major requirements. A new 10 year timeframe would then begin.
