“When you see some of our strongest students sharing a dinner table with a CEO at one of the Great Journeys Lectures, or sitting across from one in a boardroom on a company tour, it becomes very clear just how the Scholars Program is fostering future leaders.”
Brian Hinshaw, Academic Advisor for Business Scholars
Lubar Hall N297
OrientationEach new class of Business Scholars is welcomed into the program during a Scholars Orientation, held in the week prior to the start of the cohort’s sophomore year. The Scholars Orientation allows the Scholars to meet each other, the Scholars instructors, and program staff.
Great Journeys LecturesThe Great Journeys lectures invite exceptional “role model” business and community leaders to speak to students about the guiding values, transforming influences, successes, and challenges in their lives, and inspire the next generation to embark upon their own “great journeys.” Past speakers in the Great Journeys Series have included Sheldon B. Lubar (Chairman and Founder, Lubar & Co., Inc.), Dennis J. Kuester (Chairman & CEO, Marshall & Ilsley Corp.), and Albert O. Nicholas (Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Nicholas Company).
Corporate Field Trips and Company ToursThe Scholars Program has paired with local companies to offer Corporate Field Trips to important local companies. Such trips typically include tours of the company, presentations by company executives, and opportunities to network with Lubar School alumni. In past semesters, Scholars Program students have had the opportunity to visit Rockwell Automation, Mark Travel / Trisept Solutions, and the Harley-Davidson Motor Company.
Other Invitations and SponsorshipsIn the 2006-2007 Academic Year, Business Scholars students were also invited to participate in many unique opportunities and programs, including the 2nd Annual Leadership Dinner, the Distinguished Entrepreneur Lecture Series, the Bradley Distinguished Lecture Series, and the Lubar School’s 40th Anniversary Celebration Dinner, where the Scholars were sponsored by and seated with representatives of important Milwaukee-area businesses. The Scholars students also had the opportunity to have lunch with Chancellor Carlos Santiago.
