PhD Basic Information
Admission
The program generally requires a masters degree from an accredited college or university for admission, as well as preparation in research skills such as mathematics, statistics, and computer programming. However, exceptional candidates with only a Bachelor's Degree will be considered for enrollment. All applicants are reviewed by the School's Ph.D. Program Committee before a recommendation is made. Admission decisions are based on:
- the student's achievements in prior academic work
- scores on the Graduate Record Examination Aptitude Test (GRE) or the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)
- assessment of the student's analytical capabilities
- Reasons for Graduate Study statement, which must incude the area of specialization
- the ability and potential to do independent research
- substantial evidence of scholarly potential and commitment

Application DeadlinesIn order to receive full consideration for financial support such as assistantships or fellowships, the recommended application deadline is January 1 for admission in the following Fall semester. While we do admit students in Fall, Spring, and Summer, financial support is generally awarded for the academic year, starting the Fall semester. Students who are admitted to a Spring or Summer start typically have to wait until the subsequent Fall to be considered for any type of financial assistance.
Areas of specialization are admitting students as follows:
- Finance - Next admitting students for Fall 2009
- Management Information Systems - Currently admitting students
- Marketing - Currently admitting students
- Organizations and Strategic Management - Currently admitting students
- Production/Operations Management - Currently admitting students
Early decisions on financial support will take place in March of each year. With few exceptions, financial support awards are offered and accepted at this time.
AssistantshipsTeaching, research, and project assistantships; fellowships; and Advanced Opportunity Program awards are some of the financial assistance opportunities available to qualified graduate students.
The Graduate School has a full-time Fellowship Coordinator who can assist students in applying for fellowships, Advanced Opportunity Program awards for minority and financially disadvantaged students, and Graduate and Professional Study fellowships.
