New Student Orientation Program

After you and your guests check-in, you will be welcomed to campus by representatives from the Student Success Center. You will then meet with Orientation Leaders (current UWM students) to discuss campus resources and their experiences at UWM.

Soon thereafter you will join your fellow Business students and the Lubar School of Business advisors to learn about degree requirements, the advisor/advisee relationship, student rights and responsibilities, and plan your schedule for fall.

As a follow-up to this summer session, it is strongly recommended that you meet with your advisors during your first semester. In the fall you will be invited to participate in the New Student Advising Month during October where you can schedule an individual meeting with your advisor to go over any questions you may have and to plan out your future semesters.

Your registration session will begin with a Business advisor explaining the results of your English, Math and any other placement exams you have taken. You will work with your advisor to develop an individualized schedule for fall that places emphasis on completing the math and english course sequences. General Education courses will be incorporated so you will have 4-5 courses during your first semester.

General Education Courses are outside of the Lubar School of Business and provide a broad knowledge of the arts, humanities, social sciences and natural sciences. These courses can be found under "General Education Requirements" in the UWM Schedule of Classes.

To graduate, Business students will need a number of courses in these areas, namely:

  • 3 credits from Arts
  • 6 credits from Humanities
  • 6 credits from Social Sciences
  • 6 credits from Natural Sciences (3 credits of which must include a lab)
  • 3 credits of cultural diversity that can be taken in conjunction with either an arts, humanities, or social science course.

The advisors will work with you to create a schedule you are comfortable with and that meets your goal of graduating in a timely fashion.

If you would like to learn more about the types of courses offered, please feel free to visit the following websites prior to attending your New Student Orientation.
