This
conference will take up the forums of cultural display that construct
public narratives of memory and citizenship. Scholars and visual artists
will address how the institution of the museum, as well as expanded
fields of display, constitute visual products and events that structure
contemporary identities. The physical sites and the conditions of the
display of art, artifacts, and cultures will be explored in the context
of the current proliferation of museums and changing definitions of
cultural identity.
