Tanya Tiffany
Department of Art History
Fellow 2006-07

Tanya Tiffany is Assistant Professor of Art History at UWM. She received her Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University in 2003, and her dissertation research was funded with fellowships from the Fulbright Program and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Before coming to UWM, she spent two years as Southern Methodist University’s Haakon Fellow in Art History. Her work has been published in journals including /Sixteenth Century Journal/ and /Seventeenth-Century News/. Currently, she is completing a book manuscript on Diego Velázquez’s close but critical engagement with the artistic, religious, and social practices of his native Seville. At the Center, she will be exploring constructions of gender, identity, and racial difference in Velázquez’s early works.
