Selene Jaouadi-Escalera is a Master's candidate in the Linguistics department. Her focus is on applied- and socio-linguistics, with particular interest on the dialect accommodation of Latinos in the U.S. as well as issues surrounding dialect prejudice. Originally from Milwaukee, Selene completed her undergraduate degree at Smith College in Massachusetts where she studied Portuguese and Brazilian Studies (and spent a wonderful year in Rio de Janeiro). She enjoys riding her bike (when it’s warm), watching House Hunters International, hanging out with friends and family, and going to film festivals on campus. Most of all, she enjoys traveling with her husband, Amine. For 2011-12, she is looking forward to working with Center staff for her second year!
