(Center for Land Use Interpretation, Culver City, CA)
"Monuments of Disintegration"
Keynote for the Midwest Interdisciplinary Graduate Conference
2:00 pm Curtin Hall 175
Co-sponsored by UWM College of Letters and Science

Matthew Coolidge, the founder and director of the Center for Land Use Interpretation (CLUI), will take the audience on a mediated journey through American landscapes of disintegration, decay, ruin, and waste, suggesting ways that these places, the terrestrial by-products of production and consumption, contain the clues that support a more complete understanding of our culture, condition, and future.

Recommended background reading for the lecture: Matthew Coolidge, Sarah Simons, eds., Overlook: Exploring the Internal Fringes of America with the Center for Land Use Interpretation (Metropolis Books, 2006).
