“Local (Sexual) Affairs, Global (Financial) Matters”: Discourses of Gender and Sexuality in Alfonso Cuarón’s Mexican Films,” paper presented at Latin American Studies Association Congress in Las Vegas, NV (October 2004). Funding for this presentation was provided by the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies. Respondent for “Issues in Contemporary Latin American Film Production,” a panel organized for the 2005 Society for Cinema and Media Studies Conference in London, England (April 2005).  Organizer of “Cinematic Dislocations and Relocations: A Conference on the Cinemas of Latin America, the Caribbean and their Diasporas,” Milwaukee, WI (April 2005).


Writing Projects

Final revisions of an essay on Tomás Gutiérrez Alea’s The Last Supper (1976) for Film Analysis: A Norton Reader edited by Jeffrey Geiger and Randy Rutsky (New York: W.W. Norton & Co, 2005). Writing of a commissioned entry on Survivor, as well as revising and updating entries on Family and The Arsenio Hall Show for the 2nd edition of The Encyclopedia of Television edited by Horace Newcomb (New York: Routledge Reference/Taylor & Francis, 2005).
