A research center of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee The Center for Advanced Spatial Information Research at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee was founded in March 2003 to further applied and theoretical research in geographic information systems and related technologies. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is recognized as a leader in geospatial science, and CASIR brings together many of the country's leading researchers from the disciplines of geography, urban planning, information studies, environmental science, mathematics, information science, economics and engineering to facilitate advanced research in geographic information systems (GIS), internet GIS, distributed geoprocessing, geocomputation and systems interoperability. Researchers at CASIR are dedicated to applying theoretical geospatial research to real world situations. CASIR is the world's only center for internet GIS research, widely regarded to hold the key to the future of geographic information science. CASIR is improving access to high technology mapping systems, improving transportation and environmental planning, and helping to draw a picture of our complex world. After one year's development, the center not only contributed to the collaborative research across the campus, but also made great process on Internet GIS study. With the center, UWM continuous to be a world leader in GIS research.
