The purpose of this three-day short course is to present the current technology and latest developments in concrete technology. This will be a short course ("teaching seminar") on issues of interest to concrete production and construction. This cours e will provide detailed discussions about the various factors affecting concrete performance and will emphasize those measures which can be used at various stages of planning and construction to assure high-quality, high-strength, high-performance, and hi gh-durability concrete. This will include selection and testing of materials, mixture proportioning and specifying, in-situ non-destructive testing and evaluation, factors affecting durability, use of fly ash, and hardened concrete analysis/evaluation.
Who should attend?
Practicing architects, engineers, construction personnel, material suppliers, ready mixed concrete and testing laboratory personnel, people involved in Q.C. and Q.A. of concrete, plant engineers, and owners will find that the program will cover many as pects of their work and will, therefore, be of immediate value to them. The speakers will also become a resource for resolution of problems that participants may be faced with at the present or in the future.

Mr. Adaska is responsible for providing technical assistance on the use of concrete and other cement. based materials. He is a member and past chairman of several technical committees of ASTM and ACI and currently serves as chairman of ASTM C09.45 Ro ller Compacted Concrete and ACI 325 on Roller Compacted Concrete Pavements.
Neal S. Berke, Principal Scientist, Grace Construction Products, Cambridge, MA
Dr. Burke specializes in issues related to calcium nitrite, microsilica, shrinkage reducing cement, and fiber products. He is a member of many technical and professional societies and their technical committees. He is a chairman or co-chairman of se veral technical committees of ASTM and NACE on corrosion of metals in concrete. He has written over 75 papers and holds 15 patents.
Bernard Erlin, President and Petrographer, The Erlin Company, Latrobe, PA
Mr. Erlin has a degree in geology and worked for R and D laboratories of the PCA before starting his own company Erlin Hime Associates, Inc. He is an active member of ASTM and ACI and serves on many technical committees. His primary work is in failu re analysis of construction materials. He has written over 50 technical papers.

Dr. Mehta recently retired after 30 years on the faculty there. He is a Fellow of ACI and has authored numerous papers on the properties of concrete and cementitious materials. He is also the principal author of the textbook on "Concrete: Structure, Properties, and Materials".

Dr. Naik has over 35 years of experience with cement, aggregates, and concrete. His contribution in teaching and research has been well recognized nationally and internationally. His research has resulted in over 250 technical reports and papers in ACI, ASCE, ASTM, etc. He is a member of many technical committees of ACI, ASCE, ASTM, and RILEM. He has served as a president of WI - ACI, WSPE, and other organizations.

Mr. Olson has over 19 years of experience in the areas of geotechnical and materials engineering with specialization in nondestructive testing and evaluation for the construction industry. He is a member of the ACI Committee 228 on Nondestructive Tes ting and regularly speaks and publishes on NDT&E for construction applications. He has been involved with over 600 NDT&E projects to investigate conditions of concrete bridges, dams, tunnels, buildings, deep foundations, etc.
