27th and Cleveland Housing, 2007

The site for this project is located between 27th and 28th Streets situated on a long narrow piece of land. The design challenge was to create high density housing that would be limited by the constraints of a difficult site. Considering sustainable building practices the driving factor behind this design was the ecology of the site and surrounding area.
The resulting design is a modular arrangement of inexpensive housing that looks to utilize the site by providing service amenities in the back and open yard space in the front of the units. These units provide adaptability between public and private and implement sustainable design by including such things as rooftop rain gardens and using passive solar energy.
