Atwater Beach Pavilion Design, 2007

CDS was hired by the Friends of Atwater Beach to help them envision the beach in their neighborhood as an important community place. Although acurrently underused and dilapidated, Atwater Beach had, historically, been a major public recreation place in the Village of Shorewood. CDS helped gather support for the project in the Village by holding several public presentations to help educate community members about the issues on the beach. After the research phase, CDS continued working with the group to develop a master plan, pavilion and playground design that visually depicted the potential for improvements to the beach. The pavilion design included many sustainable techniques, including using recycled materials, using composting toilets, photovoltaic power generation, and a green roof. The group continues to gather support and funding for the project.
