Children's Natural Hideaway and Library
As part of a new master plan for children’s activity spaces at Riveredge Nature Center in Newberg, WI, CDS was asked to design a small, environmentally friendly structure to be used by young children for reading and, simultaneously, observing what they read. It would be located within easy walking distance and visibility of the RNC main building and trails, but somewhat secluded so it would have an intimate feel. The design process included seeking input from children in Riveredge’s summer camps programs. The resulting structure is made of all natural materials, has passive solar energy features, contains appropriate spaces for books as well as openings for observation.
